Trigger finger (trigger thumb) is a condition in which one of your fingers (more common thumb, 3rd or 4th finger) catches in a bent position and straightens with a snap. It is a type of stenosing tenosynovitis and results from narrowing of the sheath that surrounds the tendon. The tendon can no longer move freely through its sheath. Affected fingers are bent and make a crack sound when moved.

Physical Therapy for Trigger Finger
The goal of physical therapy is to provide pain relief, reduce inflammation and preserve function.
Physical therapist performs massage and finger mobilization as well as specific exercises to prevent loss of function of your wrist and fingers. It also prevents edema and swelling of the affected area.
In additional to Manual therapy the following therapeutical modalities are used:

What Causes the trigger finger?
Trigger finger occurs as a result of over-use injuries such as playing piano or string instruments, repetitive gripping movements or due to inflammatory diseases. Women are more often suffer from this disease then man with average age 40-60 years old.
Trigger Finger Symptoms
The main symptoms of the trigger finger are stiffness, bending of the finger; snap during straitening associated with the pain. One can also notice a node at the base of the finger. The symptoms are more severe in the morning, or while gripping something. Thumb, middle or ring finger are commonly affected.
Trigger Finger Prevention
In order to descrese likelyhood of the reccurence or development of the trigger finger one has to provide relief to the palm by doing breaks often and relax exercises while working. Any underlying conditions, such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis or circulatory problems, which can aslo result in trigger finger have to be under control.
